You know that you need your loading dock to be able to receive trailers that might not perfectly match up with the height of your dock, but what do you do? Adding a pit leveler is out of the question as you don’t have the space for it, but you still need to accommodate for differences in trailer height. The best solution is edge of dock levelers. Rotary provides edge levelers in both manual and hydraulic configurations and even offers a special edge of dock leveler for lower than normal loading dock height.
Edge of Dock Leveler
These loading dock levelers mount directly onto the building at the edge of the loading dock and ensure that you don’t have any gaps between the trailer and the building. These edge levelers are available in a variety of sizes and offer manual as well as hydraulic lift options. The manual dock levelers all feature a spring assist manual lever bar to open the dock leveler with. This provides an easy one-person operation that can be used and then returned to its folded position even before the trailer is moved away. Be sure your dock lights are positioned conveniently for visibility. For ease of use, Rotary also features hydraulic edge of dock levelers that are available in a variety of weight capacities. A simple turn of a dial puts the edge leveler into action, and it can return to the folded position before the trailer leaves or upon departure.
Loading Dock Levelers and Dock Lights
Another option for dock levelers is the top of dock leveler. Again, the need for a pit leveler is eliminated by hinging the dock leveler so that it’s mounted to the top of the loading dock. Great for lighter duty applications where you still desire a hydraulic assist. Rotary also offers an economy option for edge of dock levelers. The Barlift edge of dock leveler is a lever-activated dock leveler that has spring assist. Rotary also offers the EP Series-EZ-Pull edge of dock levelers that is also lever-activated and features a self-storing handle.
In some cases, you may have a loading dock that is lower than normal. The regular edge levelers and dock levelers just won’t do the trick, as they are positioned too low for regular height trailers. Rotary now offers a special dock leveler for these lower docks called the LD Series Lo-Dock edge of dock leveler. These units are designed to be mounted between three and nine inches above your loading dock, providing a smooth transition between loading dock and trailer. Also, be sure your dock is well lit with the right dock lights for your space. This ensures safety and visibility.
